Create Your Own Food-Scented Candle

Urban Wick Candle Bar in Downtown Birmingham, Michigan, is Southeast Michigan's first custom candle-making spot. You pick your scents and pour your own natural soy candle with help from an in-house scent designer. Choose from over 80 fragrance oils. They even have food-inspired scents like bakery, dessert, and kitchen aromas. It is a fun and easy experience for everyone.

Which Food Scents Can You Blend?

The food-scented candle category has grown fast, and for good reason: bakery, kitchen, and dessert aromas are some of the most comforting scents you can bring into a room.

At Urban Wick, our 80+ premium fragrance oils include options that capture warm vanilla, caramel, fresh-baked bread, seasonal spices, and more. Our scent designers help you sample, layer, and blend until the combination feels exactly right.

You are not limited to a single note. Layering a bakery base with a spice accent can produce something entirely new. That is the difference between pulling a candle off a shelf and creating your own custom blend.

How Does the Candle-Making Experience Work?

Walk into our candle bar experience in Downtown Birmingham, and you step into a creative, sensory space. A scent designer walks you through the fragrance bar, helps you identify what you love, and guides the blending and pouring process.

Each candle is hand-poured with natural soy wax and an organic cotton wick. Once poured, your candle sets while you explore the shops and restaurants right outside our door.

Reservations are strongly recommended. Groups of up to 8 people can book online. For larger private groups of 18 to 30 guests, visit our private gatherings page for full details.

Want to scent more than one space? You can apply your food-inspired blend to reed diffusers, room sprays, and body lotions as well.

Who Loves a Food-Scented Candle?

Food-scented candles tend to draw in a different crowd than florals or musks. The pull is nostalgia, comfort, and the way a baked-goods aroma can shift the entire mood of a room within minutes.

  • Home bakers and cooks: an easy way to extend kitchen aromas long after the oven cools down
  • Holiday hosts: seasonal spice, pumpkin, and gingerbread notes set the tone for fall and winter gatherings
  • First-time homeowners: a vanilla or fresh-baked bread blend reads as instantly welcoming for guests
  • Realtors and stagers: soft bakery scents make showings feel lived-in without being overpowering
  • Gift-givers stuck on something thoughtful: a personalized food-scented candle hits differently than a gift card

Why Urban Wick for Food-Inspired Scents?

Food fragrances are harder to get right than most scent families. Get the proportions wrong and a vanilla candle smells like frosting in a can, a coffee candle smells burnt, a bread candle smells yeasty. Urban Wick is built to avoid that.

  • Test before you commit: smell every variation with your scent designer, so the final candle matches the aroma in your head
  • Layered, never one-note: combine a bakery base with a spice or citrus accent to avoid the flat, syrupy quality of cheap food candles
  • Natural soy wax and organic cotton wicks: let warm food notes develop cleanly, without paraffin haze cutting through the aroma
  • 80+ premium fragrance oils: vanilla, caramel, brown sugar, espresso, cinnamon, and more, sourced specifically for candle-grade performance
  • Local, mother-daughter-owned: founded in 2020 in Birmingham, MI, with features on WDIV-TV's "Live in the D" and Detroit Mom
