Urban Wick takes a different approach. Instead of handing you a pre-made candle, our in-house scent designers walk you through building your own custom scent from the ground up. You pick the fragrance notes. You control the intensity. The result is a candle that actually smells the way you want it to.

Urban Wick Candle Bar was founded in July 2020 by Marlene and Elise Mansour, a mother-daughter team in Birmingham, MI. It was the first candle bar of its kind in Southeast Michigan. Every signature candle reflects that same hands-on, small-batch approach the shop was built on.

How the Custom Candle-Making Experience Works

The process is simple and social. No experience needed.

  • Choose your vessel: Select the candle size and container that fits your space.
  • Smell and explore: Test fragrance oils with the help of your scent designer.
  • Blend your scent: Combine notes until you find the profile you love.
  • Pour and wait: Your candle sets while you explore Downtown Birmingham shops and restaurants.
  • Take it home: Pick up your finished, labeled, hand-poured candle before you leave.

Yes. Our 80+ premium fragrance oils include a wide range of smoky, savory, and charred scent profiles. Your scent designer will help you identify and layer the notes that come closest to the aroma you have in mind. The final blend is entirely yours.

Most guests blend between two and four fragrance oils to build their custom scent. Your scent designer will guide you on how different notes interact and how to keep the blend balanced.

Reservations are strongly recommended and can be made at urbanwickcandlebar.com/pages/schedule-an-appointment. Walk-ins are welcome depending on availability, but a reservation guarantees your seat. The $10 per person fee is credited toward your purchase.
