The human nose has roughly 400 scent receptors. Scent molecules are released by substances around us all the time. These scents enter your nose and make their way up through your nasal cavity. Once they reach the top, they encounter millions of cilia, or tiny hairs. These are connected to sensory neurons that send signals to our brain to help identify the smell.
